Guest Speaker – Lieutenant Loren Farrell, Financial Crimes Division

Lieutenant Farrell gave a presentation on Identity theft, stating that the San Fernando Valley was the identity theft capital of the world. He also 530 PC, Identity Theft and described the various categories of identity theft as well as provided prevention tips.

Area Update

Captain Buck announced the transfer of Captain Hundshamer to Olympic Station and that Officer Duvally would be on loan to the SLO office, working for Basic Car 15A21. Violent crime is down in North Hollywood Area. Updates were given on a recent double homicide in Officer Rowland’s area that resulted in one arrest and an Officer involved Shooting involving Vineland Boys gang members that resulted in three arrests. She announced this year’s North Hollywood Areas National Night out activities and stressed that CPAB participate. She invited the group to hear a presentation on protecting children from cell phone predators on June 25, 2008, at the North Hollywood Community Police Station. The presentation will be given by Bob Lotter. Captain Buck also talked about the importance of e-policing and asked the group for their e-mail addresses so an e-mail system between the Captain’s office and the community could be implemented. She thanked those who attended the recent C.P.A.B Summit and announced a CPAB Field Trip to be planned in the near future.

C.P.AB Web Calendar Update

Erik Reuveni gave the update on behalf of Andrea Neuman, who was out of town. The site is ready to be launched and Andrea will give a demonstration at the next meeting.

S.L.O Update

Officer Esther Vasquez (15A3) – Officer Vasquez stated that overall crime in her area was down, however robberies were up. She gave updates on a recent shooting, a stabbing and an upcoming vendor task force that is coming up.

Officer Gabriel Ahedo (15A13) – Officer Ahedo updated the group on an attempt murder between gang members that occurred in his area.

Officer Jenifer Duvally (15A21) – Officer Duvally stated that burglaries and robberies were down in her area. Burglaries from motor vehicles remained about the same. She gave updates on the clean-up of a homeless encampment on Saticoy, graffiti occurring in alleys along Coldwater Canyon and a recent Basic Car Meeting.

Officer Chris Rowland (15A33) – Officer Rowland stated that overall crime in his area was up. He gave updates on a double homicide and his efforts to address crime and transients along vacant areas of Valley Plaza.

Officer John Catalano (15A39) – Officer Catalano stated that overall crime in his area was down. His area newsletter will be coming out soon. He gave updates on some Clanton gang member arrests in the area of Whitnall Highway and the closing of the Red Rooster Bar.

Officer Robert Benavidez (15A67) – Officer Benavidez stated that though overall crime in his area was down this year, burglaries from motor vehicles were up. He stressed the importance of community involvement in keeping crime down. He gave an update on a couple burglaries in the Toluca Lake area and provided details on a car show there that would benefit Police Activities League Supporters (PALS)

Officer Mike Lewis (15A85) – Officer Lewis stated that overall crime in his area was down. Burglaries from motor vehicles were up however. He gave an update on a robbery that occurred on Laurelcrest Avenue and the recent arrest of the suspect.

Public Comment
• Tim Saito described the Neighborhood Prosecutor Program and gave updates on current projects he is working on. These included a day laborer program with Officer Catalano, vacant house locations, Valley Plaza homeless encampments and Fernangeles Park.
• Pastor Jerrell Walls distributed an election handout regarding the 2008 Mid Town North Hollywood Neighborhood Council.
• Ruben Zaragoza distributed a Family Summer Festival handout from Councilmember Tony Cardenas’ office.
